Steel Classes

Steel materials are classified as Plain Carbon Steels and Alloy Steels according to their composition. Plain Carbon Steels are also grouped as low, medium and high carbon steels. Alloy Steels are grouped as low and high alloy steels.

PLAIN CARBON STEELS

1. Low Carbon Steels
They are steels containing C in Max. 0.20 range.

2. Medium Carbon Steels
Steels in this group are steels containing 0.20 - 0.50% carbon.

3. High Carbon Steels
These are the steels containing more than 0.50% carbon.


ALLOY ( QUALIFIED ) STEELS
1. Low Alloy Steels
Steels with an alloying element and the sum of its elements less than 5%.

2. High Alloy Steels
Steels with an alloying element or elements totaling more than 5%.

STEELS BY SURFACE TREATMENT
1. Hot Rolled Steels
2. Bright Steels

Cold Drawing : It is a chipless forming method that is applied by reducing the cross-section and extending the length of the materials by passing the sections through a smaller mold in order to obtain a more sensitive surface quality of the hot rolled steels.
Peeling : It is the machining process to remove the capillary cracks formed on the surface of the materials after hot rolling.
Grinding : It is the process applied to the material surface when cold drawing and peeling processes are not sufficient and more precise surface quality is desired.
